Oh, We Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside

Year 2 pupils from St Nicolas' CofE Academy recently enjoyed an exciting visit to Weston-super-Mare as part of their Geography topic on the seaside. Throughout this unit, the children have been learning about coastal environments, seaside towns and the physical and human features that make them unique. The trip provided a valuable real-life opportunity to explore a UK seaside town first-hand and bring their classroom learning to life.

As we live so far inland, many of the children have limited opportunities to visit the coast, and for the majority of the class, this was their very first trip to Weston-super-Mare. After a very early departure from school, the excitement on the coach was impossible to miss, and the children were positively bouncing with excitement as they stepped off the coach and caught their first glimpse of the beach!

During the day, the children enjoyed identifying many of the physical and human features they had been studying, including the beach, the sea, the famous pier and the impressive Big Wheel. Seeing these features in real life helped deepen their understanding of how seaside towns are developed and used by visitors.

The children had a wonderful time playing beach games, building sandcastles, walking along to the pier and, of course, enjoying a well-earned ice cream. There were smiles all around as they explored, learned and created special memories with their friends.

The trip was a huge success, and we have received some lovely feedback from the adults who joined us:

"Best trip I have been on and I've been going on school trips for 20 years."

"Thank you for organising an awesome trip, it has been an amazing day."

"Thank you for allowing me to be a part of today - it has been great."

"My child has had the best time and it will certainly be a highlight of their primary school life."

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all of the staff and parent volunteers who generously gave up their time to support the visit and help make the day such a success. A special mention must go to Mrs Talbot, who did a fantastic job organising every aspect of the trip. Her hard work ensured that the children had an unforgettable experience, and it is certainly a trip we hope to repeat next year.
