Sing Up Project at Leigh CofE Academy

At Leigh Church of England Academy, our vision is to “Aim ever higher” and to grow together through love and learning. We believe that every child deserves opportunities to discover their talents, develop their confidence and experience the joy of learning together. Our recent Sing Up project was a wonderful celebration of these values, demonstrating the power of music to bring people together and strengthen our school community.

Throughout the week, our children took part in exciting musical workshops, developing their singing skills, building confidence and working collaboratively towards a shared goal. The workshops gave pupils the opportunity to challenge themselves, step outside their comfort zones and discover what they could achieve when they supported one another. Every voice mattered, and every child had a part to play in creating something truly special.

Music has a unique ability to connect people. It allows children to express themselves, experience a sense of belonging and develop important skills such as listening, cooperation, resilience and self-belief. These opportunities reflect our commitment to providing an aspirational, inclusive and enriching curriculum in which all children are encouraged to flourish. The Sing Up project also reflected the importance of our Christian values, particularly community, dignity, hope and respect, reminding us that we achieve so much more when we learn and grow together.

The week culminated in a spectacular concert at our local church, St James, where the children had the opportunity to share their achievements with their families and the wider community. The whole school snaking through the streets was a marvellous sight to behold! It was a joyful occasion, filled with music, pride and a tremendous sense of togetherness. Seeing the children perform with such enthusiasm and confidence was a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when young people are given the opportunity to shine.

As a Church of England academy, we recognise that our responsibility extends beyond the classroom. We are proud to be part of the Tile Hill community and value the relationships we build with local organisations, our church and the families who make up the Leigh family. Holding our concert at St James was a meaningful way to celebrate these connections, bringing school, home and church together in a shared experience.

Engaging with families is central to our belief that children flourish when the adults around them work together. Events such as this provide precious opportunities for parents and carers to celebrate their children's successes, share in their learning and see first-hand the confidence and creativity that our curriculum nurtures. We know how important it is to create welcoming opportunities for families to feel connected to school and to one another.

We are incredibly proud of our children and grateful to everyone who helped make the week such a success. The Sing Up project was about much more than learning songs or preparing for a performance. It was about aspiration, belonging, confidence and community. It showed our children that their voices matter, that their contributions are valued and that, together, they can achieve something remarkable.

At Leigh Church of England Academy, we will continue to seek opportunities that enrich our children's experiences, strengthen our relationships with families and celebrate the community of which we are so proud.
