  • The Big Sing - Coventry Cathedral

    The Big Sing took place at Coventry Cathedral on the 12th May 2026.  Here is an update from one academy that attended the event.

    Salford Priors CofE Academy were proud to take part in The Big Sing at Coventry Cathedral this week, where 600 children gathered to form a mass choir under the direction of Acting Director of Music, Joe Watson.

    In the weeks leading up to the event, Mr Watson visited participating schools to rehearse with the children, helping to build their confidence and prepare them for the performance. The occasion provided a wonderful opportunity for our enthusiastic singers to experience the joy of performing as part of a large choir.

    The concert programme included the hymn Here I Am, Lord, accompanied by the magnificent cathedral organ, as well as a performance from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

    As part of this experience, we have also been exploring the history of Coventry and its Cathedral, including the events surrounding the bombing of the city in November 1940. Through our studies, we have reflected on how devastation and destruction were transformed into powerful symbols of hope, peace and reconciliation that continue to resonate around the world today.

    During our visit, we spent the afternoon exploring the Cathedral ruins and artefacts, helping the children to deepen their understanding of the vision and message that the ‘new’ Cathedral continues to share with the world.  Here are some amazing quotes from our pupils and their experiences;

    • “I just have to put my brave hat on, and everything will be alright.”
    • “It was epic and scary because there was a lot of the people there, but it was good fun because we sang the Joseph songs”
    • “It was exciting, amazing and fun because there was 600 people there and the singing was loud”
    • “Cool and amazing, and the window told the story of God bringing light to the world”
    • “Good because it gets me to understand that I can sometimes meet people that I don’t know and that I can still have a cool time”
