  • World Blood Donor Day

    Fri 14 Jun 2019

World Blood Donor day is an annual event to thank voluntary blood donors and acknowledge them and encourage blood donation and new donors, especially by representing how blood donations have saved and changed lives. The Day has the slogan ‘Share Life, Give Blood’, referring to the caring and cohesion that giving blood and caring for others involves.

One of the aims of the day is to encourage younger people, who might be a bit nervous or unsure about giving blood, to feel encouraged to sign up and start donating, so that the donor population doesn’t decline but stays strong. It is also to highlight the need to for donations to be regular in order to keep stocks and quality of blood donations high.

Blood donation saves millions of lives annually and helps with the recovery and health of patients who have illnesses or injuries, complex operations or childbirth problems. Blood stocks are also essential in natural and man-made disasters. Some blood types are rare, so promoting the need for rare donor types is also part of this event. World Blood Donor Day is vital in highlighting the need for blood donors and regular donations.

Many countries still have a shortage of donors, and thus World Blood Donor Day is vital to these countries to raise awareness of blood donation and thus increase supply in order to save as many lives as possible.

  • We welcome our new CEO on 12th August

    Fri 07 Jun 2019

We are pleased to announce that Michael Cowland will be joining the Trust on Monday 12th August 2019.

Michael has been working in multi academy trusts since 2011 having made a successful transition from local government. This transition started with Northampton Academy a large secondary academy run by United Learning and most recently with the Diocese of Peterborough, where he is part of the senior leadership team who established the Peterborough Diocese Education Trust (PDET).  The PDET has since grown to become the home of 30 academies, 5,500 children, 950 members of staff and has a turnover of over £25m.  Michael spent time acting as interim Chief Executive Officer to cover a period of absence where he led the trust through four Ofsted inspections, the trust’s twenty third academy conversion and the successful secondment of a Head of Learning and Achievement, a post which resulted in a step change in the trust’s academy improvement services.

Michael has a deep understanding of the issues facing academies today and is very much looking forward to leading the Diocese of Coventry Multi Academy Trust as we navigate through the ever changing educational landscape.

Michael is a Cranfield School of Management Executive MBA and lives in Northamptonshire with his wife, 3 daughters and Eddie the beagle.
